Huel® Hot and Savoury Review » (Not Sponsored)

By in HomeKitchen

Today, I will be reviewing Huel’s Hot and Savoury nutritionally complete food. This gorgeous thing is hands down my favorite these days and it is so easy to make as well.

What is Huel Hot And Savoury?

Now, what is it you ask? Huel Hot & Savoury is a nutritionally complete, ready-to-eat vegan meal. Yes, a meal, not a shake or a powder that you mix in water to drink or something. It is an actual meal that you can eat. This one is a game-changer in instant meals.

You can hear me talk about what I feel about the Huel Hot and Savoury in the video that I filmed here:

The first thing that I absolutely love about this instant meal is its taste, which is so good. Moreover, it is so filling. The first time I had it, I made too much thinking that it wouldn’t fill up my tummy quickly, but I was wrong. It is quite nutritious, tasty and even one serving is plenty. But, I like to add a little salt to it to make it perfect for my palate.

The Huel Hot and Savoury is composed of whole foods such as vegetables and grains. However, the ingredients vary depending on the flavor that you buy.

How To Make It?

The instant nutritious meal is quite easy to make. To make it, you have to add two scoops of the product, add 210ml of water, mix it well and then let it rest for five minutes ( I like to keep it for twenty minutes).

Well, five minutes is also okay, but since I eat it at work, I prepare it a little before my lunch break and then let it rest for about 20 minutes. Once it is my break time, I pick it up and gulp it down. Ta-da!

The Ingredients

This is what the company has to say about the product:

“a hot, tasty, plant-based instant meal that gives your body all the good stuff it needs to thrive – its carefully curated blend of real whole food ingredients is packed with 26 essential vitamins, protein, carbs, fats, and fiber.”

Huel Hot & Savoury is a certified gluten-free and vegan meal. With only 400 calories, each meal provides an astonishing 23–25 grams of protein (depending on the flavor), as well as 26 vital vitamins and minerals.

The Flavors

The product offers a wide range of flavors for consumers to choose from. Here’s what it offers:

  • Mexican Chili
  • Thai Green Curry
  • Tomato & Herb
  • Mac & Cheeze
  • Korma
  • Madras
  • Sweet & Sour

Is This Meal Healthy?

IMO, this meal is completely healthy and is super easy to make as well. You get the required amount of proteins, fibers, and all other essential micronutrients as well. So, it is a great package to add in your diet every day.

Here’s What I Like About The Instant Meal

Flavor And Texture

First thing’s first, I’m NOT a vegan, but I still love this nutritional meal way too much! I’d like to say that it’s really tasty and the texture is good too. Coming from a non-vegan like me, who is addicted to it, you must believe that it is really really good.

The texture is also good, it isn’t a powder like Huel’s previous products. It feels very authentic and very very real, I tell you.

I feel it is somewhere in between a solid meal and a shake, because there are bits that you have to chew, but at the same time it is a bit sloppy.

One of the greatest things about the Huel meal is that it has a one year expiration date, so if you get bored of it, you can always put it up on the shelf and then get back to it a few weeks later.

The Pricing

For people living in the UK, The Huel Hot and Savoury is reasonably priced. Considering the effort they have put into transforming their products, I believe it is not overpriced at all.

Each bag of the Huel Hot and Savoury has 21 meals and each meal costs you $3.76 per meal, but if you subscribe to Huel then you get 10 % off on your first purchase.

Fantastic For Camping And Backpacking

Huel sells its products on the basis of convenience and portability. It is easy to make and you can literally take it everywhere. Also, it is healthy unlike many instant meals like pot noodles etc. If you’re someone who goes on trips often, this is something worth considering.

Instant Food

The nice thing about this meal is that it is so easy to make and tastes quite good, too. You know I don’t have to move out of the office to find a restaurant to eat at. I can quickly pop two scoops in the bottle and make it in five minutes. It is definitely a healthier and cheaper alternative that I would like to hold on to.

The Things I Don’t Like About The Instant Meal

Yes, I know I said I love it, but that does not mean I don’t find anything bad about it. There are quite a few things that I find odd about the Huel Hot and Savoury instant meals.

The Powder

You must be startled to see the title, but let me tell you what I mean by that. You have to be really careful with the bag, the powder splashes everywhere once you open it. I almost filled my shirt with it. It just kabooms once you tear open the bag.

Adding Salt To Each Flavor

I just have to add salt each time, no matter what the flavor I go for. Well, I like to enhance the flavors so a little bit of salt is always required in them. Also, to each their own, this is just my personal opinion.

Too Much Sugar

There’s way too much sugar in each flavor. Huel claims that they are all-natural sugars but why on Earth would you add sugar to Mexican chili?

Not Good For People With Dietary Issues

A little disclaimer will help save a lot of people from stomach issues. There’s no denying that Huel Hot and Savoury is an instant rehydrated meal, and is not a real meal made out of fresh ingredients. It is more like pretend food. Therefore, it is not at all suitable for people with digestive issues such as IBS.

Not And Everyday Meal Replacement

If you’re a big foodie, then the Huel Hot and Savoury will not quite cut it for you. It is more expensive than Huel powders and shakes, and obviously, it does not feel all-natural.

The Bags

Ahem ahem, the ads make it look super easy, but resealing the bags is a whole other ballgame. Every time something gets stuck in between the flaps of the bags and it gets impossible to seal them. When you’re in a hurry, this can get pretty frustrating.

Final Thoughts

Initially, Huel introduced only two flavors for its Hot and Savoury line. But, in recent times, it came up with a few new flavors so you will not get bored that easily and neither do I.

Honestly, it has become a part of my daily routine and now I don’t even have to think much about what to eat for my lunch.

Since I usually don’t have much time on my hands to prepare food, I can just take out five minutes and prepare a nutritious meal for myself that is pretty cost-effective too. It helps me save around $300 each month. So, isn’t that a great steal?

Huel tastes great and makes my body feel great too. You know, I keep experimenting with the flavors by making up combos and then finishing it up with some spices.

As far as the consistency is concerned, I let it stay in the water for a longer time than recommended. This way, I’m able to avoid the sloppy texture that does not feel all that good in the mouth.

Happiness Over Everything

On a parting note everybody, I’m not a dietician and I’m not an expert in this department, so if you plan on making dietary changes in your life, please speak to your nutritionist first.

Moreover, if this change does not make you happy, it is not worth having for a long period of time. Contentment is always more important than anything else.

To all those who have read this far, first of all, thank you very much. Second of all, this is my personal opinion on the Huel Hot and Savoury meal replacement food.

I would 10 out of 10 recommend it to everyone. Also, if you are an aspiring vegan, or already are one, then this is a chance for you to eat more vegan food!
